The role

As one of the foundational members of our people operations team, you’ll help shepherd Watershed through our next phase of growth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who sees themselves as a builder to get into the role early and help us support a rapidly scaling organization. You will help us build and operate all systems, processes, and practices related to People Operations (e.g., onboarding and offboarding, benefits, leaves of absence, HRIS, immigration, etc.) and help us scale existing or build new approaches to making the employee experience at Watershed exceptional.

You will:

  • Manage Watershed’s People Operations systems, processes, and practices, managing a team of vendors and working with a range of internal stakeholders
  • Partner with People Partners and legal team to develop and maintain global HR policies and principles 
  • Identify opportunities to evolve our people programs & system and support project management and implementation as we continue to grow globally (currently have offices in the US and UK)
  • Provide excellent “Watershedder-obsessed” service to our employees on HR matters including onboarding, offboarding, immigration, etc.  reducing friction so the team is empowered and supported to make an impact on climate change

In your first year, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national laws in the US and UK
  • Implement a ticketing system - establish an operational playbook for inbound requests and routing them to the appropriate external vendors and/or internal staff and stakeholders
  • Evaluate our current suite of vendors and people tech stack and determine areas for improvement
  • Build and maintain reporting and observability dashboards
  • Identify and implement upgrades and automations for our people systems including our HRIS system, onboarding, offboarding, immigration, compensation delivery, and day-to-day employee support 

You might be a fit if you: 

  • Have 3+ years experience in people operations
  • Have experience working with a range of HR tech systems and tools 
  • Have experience building people data dashboards and reports
  • Bring enthusiasm for operational improvements
  • Have experience working at fast-growing companies and comfort with ambiguity
  • Have previous experience selecting, migrating, and managing people systems and software
  • Have experience working at a company with multiple offices and a combo of in-person and remote teams
  • Outstanding judgment and ability to balance compliance with a people-first culture

At Watershed, we strive to design consistent, fair, and competitive compensation programs. The total cash compensation range may be inclusive of several levels at Watershed and final offer will be determined by a number of factors, including the candidate’s skills, capabilities, and location, as well as scope of the role.

The anticipated cash compensation range is in addition to a total rewards benefit package including equity, health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), unlimited paid time off, paid parental leave, fertility, and mental health programs etc.

Where does Watershed work?

We have hub offices in San Francisco, New York and London, and some remote team members in the US and EU. Most of our jobs need to be in San Francisco / New York / London, but certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description.

What’s the interview process like?

It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel after that if the screens go well. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
