Announcing Watershed's 1-megatonne carbon removal RFP

Watershed is accepting proposals from suppliers to fill a 1-megatonne carbon removal credit demand

Carbon RFP

Watershed is opening its first-ever request for proposals for carbon removal suppliers to join our ecosystem of decarbonization partners. We are seeking 1 megatonne of carbon removal credits for Watershed customers—a group of 500+ global companies with high-impact sustainability programs. Watershed's diverse customer base requires a range of solutions, which is why we are launching the first RFP in the market to procure both nature-based and engineered removals together.

Watershed customers currently have access to a vetted selection of permanent and nature-based carbon removal projects, plus clean power and sustainable aviation fuel products. Previous projects include our first-of-its-kind partnership with Frontier, novel virtual power purchase agreements, and sustainable aviation fuel certificate purchases. We are seeking new carbon partners to diversify and increase the breadth of projects currently available to our customers to build high-impact, de-risked portfolios.

Carbon removal suppliers selected in the RFP will:

  • Access a simplified sales and contracting process with an aggregated buyer group through Watershed
  • Build long-term relationships with Watershed customers—a rapidly growing group of over 500 companies that spans industries, sizes, and geographies
  • Receive priority consideration for subsequent purchase cycles, including multi-year agreements

Customers that build a carbon removal portfolio through Watershed will:

  • Leverage the benefit of aggregated buying with other Watershed customers to contain costs and reduce the burden of complex contract negotiations
  • Access high-quality projects typically available only to the biggest buyers, while supporting nascent, climate-critical technologies
  • Lock in supply in a highly constrained market
  • Make measurable progress against sustainability goals

Applications are due by March 31st. For details on how to apply, please refer to our RFP guidance. For more information, please see our supplier FAQs and application questions, or reach out directly.
