Watershed's 2026 Carbon RFP is open

watershed customers have funded $120M in decarb projects

We are on a mission to accelerate the climate economy. Our goal is to work with our customers to reduce and remove 500 megatonnes of CO2e by 2030—approximately 1% of annual global emissions. One critical way we do this is by pooling customer demand to catalyze high-impact, high-integrity carbon, clean power, and sustainable aviation fuel projects. To date, Watershed customers have funded more than $120M in projects across decarbonization markets.

Today, we're opening our second Carbon RFP to supply our growing customer base of 800+ global companies, including 90 of the Fortune 500 and 5 of the top 6 US banks. On March 19th, we’ll be sharing lessons from Watershed’s first RFP in a webinar focused on trends in carbon markets.

Applications for suppliers to join the next portfolio of projects will close April 10th.

Last year’s results

Last year's RFP drew proposals from over 300 projects spanning 17 carbon removal pathways—both nature-based and engineered—across 55 countries, targeting 1 megatonne of CO2e credits.

Suppliers selected through that process gained access to a pre-committed buyer group that executed 100+ purchases, including multiple $1M+ supplier contracts. One selected supplier was awarded purchase contracts totaling nearly 160,000 tonnes, and another signed 5 new customers through the RFP cycle.

“Accessing buyers through the Watershed Carbon RFP was a turning point for Toroto,” said José Reyes, Director of Carbon at forest restoration supplier Toroto. “It connected us with a diverse set of buyers and led to significant contracts and new strategic customers, allowing us to stay focused on what we do best: developing high-quality carbon projects in partnership with local communities. More than 73 cents of every dollar generated by carbon credit sales goes directly to climate action and community benefits. A large share returns to communities, while project partners reinvest in activities that create local jobs and strengthen ecosystem restoration.”

Growing a scalable carbon market

Through Watershed, suppliers eliminate the commercial uncertainty that makes most bilateral carbon negotiations slow and expensive. Watershed manages diligence, contracting, and delivery on behalf of the buyer cohort to consolidate the sales process, benefitting both buyers and suppliers. Selected suppliers have a path to long-term relationships across Watershed’s customer base, including multi-year agreements.
