Accurately measuring sustainability impacts throughout the value-chain is the first step to reduce the human footprint on the planet. Watershed is building the leading software solution for financial institutions to measure their financed greenhouse gas emissions as a means to discovering pathways to reduce them. And, we are building a team of scientists to implement the end-to-end measurement and sustainability analytics platform for our customers.

We’re looking for an individual to own the data science strategy for the Watershed Finance team and develop it in tandem with other functional leaders to shape the product, go-to-market, and services strategies for the team. You'll work with world-class scientists, software engineers, and product designers to build the leading platform for measuring and evaluating sustainability impacts for the climate programs of some of the world’s preeminent financial institutions.

As part of this work, you will:

• Combine customer needs, government and industry guidance, and business strategy to create and execute the data science roadmap for the Watershed Finance product.
• Partner with and advise trailblazing customers as we co-develop cutting-edge products that turn Watershed’s climate intelligence into market-leading investment intelligence.
• Expand the impact of climate data science within financial institutions by researching and developing methods to solve problems like forecasting portfolio emissions trajectories, modeling decarbonization pathways, and measuring progress against targets.
• Build and improve emissions estimation models that work with the varying types and granularities of investment data available to different types of financial institutions, including private equity, private credit, insurers, and more.
• Identify and incorporate external data sets to enrich and expand Watershed’s offering, including financial data, emissions reports, and decarbonization commitments.
• Use Watershed’s tooling to develop, test, and deploy models.

You might be a fit if you:

• Have 6+ years experience as a data scientist, bonus if you have experience in process LCA, environmental input-output analysis, or hybrid LCA especially if related to modeling emissions for financial institutions.
• Have experience in a customer-facing role leading engagements that involve problem discovery, product roadmap development, and advisory services.
• Have fluency in a scientific programming language like Python, ideally in a production environment.
• Are an excellent verbal and written communicator. You can communicate complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Thrive in high-volume environments, with both systematic organization to drive efficiency and meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
• Are willing to roll up your sleeves to work with unstructured and inconsistent data. You have good intuition for how numbers in a table map to the real world.
• Are passionate about solving sustainability challenges and excited to contribute to doing so at a fast paced startup. You learn quickly and operate well in ambiguity.
