The European Commission is considering an omnibus proposal to streamline a collection of EU Green Deal regulations—the CSRD, the CSDDD, and CBAM —in an effort to reduce the regulatory burden on businesses working toward sustainability goals. After release, the proposal will enter a negotiation phase with the European Parliament and the European Council. This period of negotiation can take some time, and businesses won’t have final outcomes until it has concluded, but when the proposal is released, we’ll update this post with a detailed analysis and some guidance for corporate sustainability programs as a result.

What is the EU omnibus proposal?

The omnibus is an initial proposal from the European Commission, the EU’s executive branch, to streamline a collection of EU Green Deal regulations to reduce regulatory burdens on businesses working toward sustainability goals.

What happens next?

The omnibus proposal must be negotiated and approved by the other two EU institutions—the European Council and the European Parliament—to take effect. Until then, the existing CSRD remains in force.
