The role
As we establish our strategic presence in Mexico City, we're seeking an exceptional Accounting Manager to help drive our expansion while maintaining world-class financial operations. This role offers an opportunity to make a significant impact not only on our business but also on global climate action.
As Accounting Manager, you'll play a dual strategic role: leading our accounting operations in Mexico City and helping to establish our new office, which will become a major hub for Watershed's global operations. This role is critical to ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and establishing scalable policies and processes to support Watershed's ambitious growth trajectory.
You'll take ownership of the monthly and quarterly close process, financial reporting, and the application of technical accounting guidance in key areas such as revenue recognition. Working closely with cross-functional teams—including Sales, Customer Success, HR, Legal, and Product—you'll establish and streamline accounting processes that support our mission.
This is an exceptional opportunity to be one of the founding members of our Mexico City office. As we grow, your role will evolve with increasing responsibilities and leadership opportunities, including the chance to build and mentor your own team of finance professionals.
You will:
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with precision and efficiency
- Support revenue recognition under ASC 606, ensuring accurate calculation and application
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reporting
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP and statutory accounting standards
- Help to build and lead the local finance and accounting team as we expand
- Develop and streamline accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls as we scale
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries
- Assist in financial planning and cross-functional initiatives to support company growth
- Proactively monitor and apply evolving GAAP standards and regulations where required
- Help to build strong connections between our Mexico City and other global teams
You might be a fit if you:
- Have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Have 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a SaaS or technology company
- Have demonstrated US GAAP accounting proficiency
- Have deep experience with ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite)
- Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams
- Have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-performance environment
- Have strong English language proficiency
Considered a “nice to have” if you:
- Have CPA, ACCA or equivalent certification
- Have Big 4 accounting firm experience (in addition to SaaS/technology company experience)
- Have experience working in a high-growth startup environment
FAQ
Where does Watershed work?
We have hub offices in San Francisco, New York and London, and some remote team members in the US and EU. Most of our jobs need to be in San Francisco / New York / London, but certain jobs are open to being remote and will be specifically noted on the jobs page and in the job description.
What’s the interview process like?
It starts the same for every candidate: getting to know the team members through 1 to 2 conversations about Watershed, your experience, and your interests. Next steps can vary by role, but usual next steps are a skill or experience screen (e.g. a coding interview for an engineer, a portfolio review for a designer, deeper experience call for other roles) which leads to a virtual or in person interview panel after that if the screens go well. We prioritize transparency and lack of surprise throughout the process.
Please note Watershed will only conduct interviews via official company channels (Google Workspace, Zoom). We do not use platforms such as Signal, WhatsApp, etc. to conduct official interviews nor to complete any part of our onboarding process. If you are reached out to on these platforms from anyone claiming to be from Watershed please let us know.
