Watershed Product Footprints provides accurate, actionable product carbon footprints (PCFs) at scale—saving teams significant time and costs over traditional approaches. The technology is built on two key components:
- AI agents trained to research supply chains and manufacturing processes as life cycle assessment (LCA) practitioners would, understanding each process and material input.
- An industry-leading collection of LCA databases, enabling granular emissions calculations for each process and material.
Like the rest of the Watershed platform, Product Footprints was designed to bring together best-in-class LCA databases from different sectors. While Product Footprints launched with a single benchmark LCA dataset, we’re rapidly adding:
- In-house LCA databases and emissions models developed and maintained by Watershed’s science team, including the Comprehensive Environmental Data Archive (CEDA) and its forest, land use, and agriculture (FLAG) dataset.
- Sector-specific LCA databases from our partners and open sources.
- A “bring your own data” capability that will enable customers to add custom LCAs or other third-party datasets they’ve licensed.
Early results have been exciting. A large computer hardware manufacturer is using Product Footprints with data from the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC)—a globally-renowned research institution for the semiconductor industry—to reflect detailed process improvements and decarbonization initiatives in their PCFs. A consumer food company is using a commercially-licensed agricultural LCA database to generate PCFs that accurately reflect regional crop yields and fertilizer practices.
