The people changing climate change

Introducing a new visual story and the 2024 changemakers

We started Watershed on the conviction that businesses play a pivotal role in fighting climate change. In the last five years, we’ve expanded to serve hundreds of companies in every region and industry. We’ve seen how, armed with the right tools and the right data, they’re making a dent in global carbon emissions.

We’ve also witnessed the power of people—individuals, teams, and groups—to drive progress on sustainability within these organizations. Behind every corporate climate program is an ambitious, change-minded leader. We call these individuals changemakers, and they are driving us toward a more sustainable future for businesses and the planet.

Our mantra is change climate change—a rallying cry for boldness and optimism in the face of humanity’s greatest challenge. Today, we’re rolling out a new phase of this campaign, focused on the people who are leading this change.

The campaign features photography by the artist Terri Loewenthal, whose images reinterpret traditional landscape photography through what she describes as a “rich, sublime subjectivity…that is faithful to the lived complexity of human-and-land interactions.” We chose these images not just for their vibrant hues, but also for the way they challenge people to look at landscapes in a new way.

This visual philosophy echoes the creativity this year’s changemakers bring to their sustainability work, and how they constantly challenge themselves to address climate change in unique, innovative ways. Each of them has broken away from traditional norms and pushed boundaries to make real progress on sustainability.

Here are just a few of the leaders we’re proud to support.
