At Watershed, we know that the path to a sustainable future starts with accurate, timely, and complete data—because without it, there’s no strong foundation on which to perform analysis and take strategic decisions towards decarbonisation. That’s why we’re excited to announce the latest update to our Comprehensive Environmental Data Archive (CEDA) — available in October.

CEDA is a multi-region environmentally extended input-output (EEIO) database for spend-based emissions data. Unlike other emissions databases, CEDA is updated annually, making it easy for Watershed and CEDA customers to measure and report with accuracy and confidence.

The latest emissions data

CEDA 2024 brings refreshed data for 60,000 emissions factors from 400 industries across 148 countries and regions, covering 95% of the world’s GDP and reflecting the latest economic, environmental, and technological change. This update ensures that CEDA remains the world’s most up-to-date and comprehensive spend-based emissions database.

CEDA’s latest update reflects global decarbonisation progress. As a result we’re seeing a median 15% decrease in footprint calculations. It may seem obvious, but you cannot build 2025’s strategy using data from 2012. Yet this is still the reality for many companies.

Multi-region coverage for a global economy

CEDA provides data coverage across 148 countries and regions and 400 industries—making it the emissions database of choice for companies with global supply chains. CEDA’s emissions factors accurately reflect the complexity of global production and trade—accounting for the significant variance in energy systems and emissions profiles between regions. Single-region models can’t do this.

Built for assurance

CEDA is for companies that prioritise accuracy and rigour and how to operate with confidence (100% of Watershed customers, when audited, have successfully passed). CEDA is built to be audit-ready with full calculation transparency and comprehensive explanations.

Quote: As we work towards our net zero goal we chose to use CEDA so we are using the most detailed and up to date climate data available for our scope 3 emissions — says Abigail Neary, Head of Sustainability at Aon

If you’re already among the hundreds of companies that use CEDA, you’ll have immediate access to the update once it is released in October, either through Watershed or your service provider of choice. If you’re new to Watershed and would like to learn more about CEDA, there’s never been a better time to start using it. Request a demo here.

Note: For customers using Watershed Finance only, the CEDA update will be rolling out in early 2025 after some customisation for Finance.
